Tuticorin, July 11, 2024 – In a remarkable feat of logistical efficiency and port infrastructure optimization, the V.O. Chidambaranar (VOC) Port has established two single-day coal handling records across two separate berths on the same day.
On July 11, 2024, the port handled:
- 16,100 tonnes of coal at North Cargo Berth-2 (NCB-2), breaking the previous record of 15,518 tonnes set just three days earlier on July 8, 2024.
- 25,900 tonnes of coal at VOC-4, surpassing the earlier benchmark of 25,788 tonnes.
These twin records underscore VOC Port’s growing stature as a high-performance maritime hub, capable of large-scale, multi-berth operations with exceptional turnaround.
Operational Collaborators and Agents
The dual achievement was made possible through the coordinated efforts of multiple shipping and logistics stakeholders:
At NCB-2:
- Vessel Agent: GAC Shipping
- Stevedoring Agent: M/s. Seaport Logistics Pvt Ltd
At VOC-4:
- Vessel Agent: Pearl Shipping
- Stevedoring Agent: BL Transport Pvt Ltd
These partnerships ensured smooth discharge processes, efficient deployment of Harbor Mobile Cranes, and precise cargo movement, reinforcing the port’s commitment to efficiency and stakeholder collaboration.
A Symbol of Rising Operational Standards
The record-setting day is another testimony to VOC Port’s consistent push toward performance excellence. Each new benchmark not only reflects technical capability but also highlights proactive logistics planning and cutting-edge handling techniques across key berths.
National Significance and Industry Applause
The achievement has been acknowledged by central bodies such as the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and PIB Chennai, and contributes to the port’s alignment with the Government of India’s Sagarmala initiative, which seeks to modernize port infrastructure and logistics efficiency nationwide.
