Tuticorin, July 8, 2024 – The V.O. Chidambaranar (VOC) Port, a key maritime gateway in southern India, has once again demonstrated its growing operational strength by setting a new single-day coal handling record of 15,518 tonnes at North Cargo Berth-2. The coal was discharged from the vessel MV Sifnos, using state-of-the-art port infrastructure and handling equipment.
This achievement surpassed the previous record of 15,442 tonnes, which had been set less than three weeks earlier on June 20, 2024.
Operational Excellence and Advancements
The consistent increase in daily handling volumes reflects the port’s strategic improvements in logistics planning, crane deployment, and coordination. The use of advanced Harbour Mobile Cranes played a key role in maximizing discharge efficiency, ensuring faster turnaround for vessels.

This milestone forms part of a series of performance breakthroughs at VOC Port during the mid-2024 period, with records being broken almost weekly. The growing throughput capacity demonstrates the port’s ability to keep pace with increasing trade demands and attract high-volume cargo operators.
